Absent In Body

After The Abyss Stares Back # 1, The Abyss Stares Back # 2, The Abyss Stares Back # 3, and, indeed, The Abyss Stares Back # 4, we can now welcome The Abyss Stares Back # 5, the final instalment of this vinyl series. Under the collaborative flag of Absent In Body, this time too, The Abyss Stares Back stands for a co-operation by some of our world’s most unique, prominent and authoritarian (smiley…) artists.

Empusae & Klankdal

Some math (no meth!) before starting the review: one plus one might be more than two. My sons do not agree, since their teacher tried to convince them that one plus one simply makes two, always, no exception. My autistic half totally agrees. 1 + 1 = 2. I checked it on the web, and indeed, this formula leaves no room for conflict or friction. But still, my stubborn part might be convinced of the opposite.

Inwolves

I have to be honest, but I hadn’t heard of Inwolves before. This project seems to be an outfit of Karen Willems, whom you might know from her collaboration and inwolvement, sorry, involvement with e.g. Dirk Serries, Zita Swoon and Yuko. And apparently there was an album before under this moniker, released in early 2014 (Air+), both as digital download and on vinyl.

Yodok III

Yodok III (quite a strange moniker indeed it is) is a collaboration of three notorious and well-known musicians that did work together under other pseudonyms or in other constellations too.

Amenra

Alive is not a ‘new’ album by Belgian finest Amenra, but a collection of live tracks that show another aspect of this band. But actually it isn’t totally renewing, for Amenra once created the Afterlife EP, being an acoustic approach of their extreme presence.

Eleanora

It has been almost two years; two years we had to wait for the successor of the nameless EP, but finally Belgium’s finest Eleanora return with a new pièce d’art, called Allure, once again under the protective wings of Consouling Sounds. The reason why I was so impatiently waiting, well, I’d like to invite you to check out the review I wrote for that mini-album, which was published on September 9th 2014…

Carneia

I was extremely pleased by All Tongues Of Babel, the second full length album by Belgian experimentalists Carneia. For the interested ones, you can check out the review I did on Concreteweb’s update of November 24th 2013. Now, almost two years and a half year after that release, the four piece, including members of e.g. King Hiss, Vermillion and No More Faith, return with a four-track EP, called Symmetry Of Mind.
