Just like another band I’ve recently revied, Full Devil Jacket this band, Pyogenesis has taken over a decade to release new material.  And just like FDJ and even more so, this is a band I’d never heard of before.

Having checked up on this band, I found out this band was founded in 1991 in Stuttgart, and that they were in some sort the founders of the Gothic Metal Genre.

That may be true, but I didn’t her any Gothic metal on this album.  Instead, the opening song, sounds more like death metal, with lots of grunts an growls. The next song seems to have been tapped from a different barrel, and sounds – to me – a bit like the Dropkick Murphy’s on steroids.

In the end, I didn’t really know what to think of this album.  It has it’s ups and downs, contains a very eclectic mix of musical styles, yet doesn’t sound too bad.  It’s not something I’d play regularly, but every now and again this is a welcome strange duck in the pond to listen to.

80/100
