Perhaps the best way to describe the sound of Free Fall is to imagine early AC/DC if they were heavily The Who/Led Zeppelin influenced. If you can imagine that sound, and if you think you'd like it, then this bunch of Swedish rock n’ rollers might be right up your alley. It's pure glamarola with no frills, no edgy alternative angles and no apologies.
It's not as glam and as commercial as Slade, Ratt or The Sweet 70s/80s material, but it's got that vibe to it, while maintaining a grittier edge that owes a good deal to 70s bands as Led Zeppelin, Cactus,… They incorporate the boogie woogie joie de vivre music style into their music. But sometimes the music here seems to drag on and certain lyrics are often repeated over and over again and all that does get a bit annoying. Yeah, there are a couple of slow tunes that come close to being clunkers, but they pass by painlessly enough.
Overall, this is an okay album, with excellent power & volume songs and some cheesy filler. If you are looking for a fairly standard rock album, check this out. But I have to admit, I don’t want to see them along Witchcraft and Orchid. They’re misplaced, party versus doom doesn’t match at all, and above all the best doom rock bands in the world have to cut their playing time. Shame on you Nuclear Blast Records.
