The legendary sword of Turin Turambar strikes again!
When it comes to the name ‘Gurthang’ in terms of Tolkien worship, I won’t go too deep into the matter this time. ‘Gurthang’ was a legendary sword owned by Túrin Turambar, hero and protagonist in a tragic story – but even-though I am a dedicated Tolkien-fan, this review does not deal with the great books of that writer.
The Polish Black Metal scene might be (one of) the ‘richest’ from Eastern Europe, I think, so there might be an impressive amount of qualitatively high-standard bands dwelling around there too. And one of the top acts – at least, this is my personal opinion, for what it’s worth – is this one: Gurthang. In essence, it is the brainchild of one A.Z.V. aka Azathoth, whom you might know as well from, for example, Cosmic Despair, Beyond Life or Azathoth (defunct in the meantime).
Polish horde Gurthang (another reference to the great Tolkien-sagas!) finally returns with new work. In the first years of their existence (they were formed in 2010), they did record and release quite some stuff, but as from half of 2013 nothing seemed to happen anymore. Until now…
