Lost Society

17,18,19, 19. No, that’s not today’s lottery numbers, but the age of the band members of Finland’s most promising newcomer combo. Founded early 2010 by thrash/ speed metal enthusiast Samy Elbanna.

The band decided even after a few years to take part in the word- renowned GBOB (Global Battle Of The Bands). After they had won the preliminary decision round in their hometown.

Threshold

Having had to wait for five long years for a new Threshold album seemed like a very long time.  Of course the band has had bitter times, with the passing away of their vocalist Andrew McDermot, but this is a triumphant return, and cherry on the cake is of course the return of their former vocalist Damian Wilson

Free Fall

Perhaps the best way to describe the sound of Free Fall is to imagine early AC/DC if they were heavily The Who/Led Zeppelin influenced. If you can imagine that sound, and if you think you'd like it, then this bunch of Swedish rock n’ rollers might be right up your alley. It's pure glamarola with no frills, no edgy alternative angles and no apologies.

Suffocation

Suffocation, legendary, an influential monument, a deadly source of inspiration for the worldwide Death Metal scene. Formed twenty five years ago, and except for a five-year break, always on top of the international map. Still with some original members (Mullen, Marchais and Hobbs), and remarkable too: the return of drummer Dave Culross.

Enforcer

Like I already had expected, the official first album on Nuclear Blast Records is showcasing an improvement over the previous albums. Musically they haven't changed anything, but the songs sound more accessible, more mature and the production also has more crunch to it!  Stylistically they still reside in the NWOBHM and US speed metal of the eighties.

Nightwish

If you’d put this CD on, almost everybody that loves classical music, with hints of more modern music in it (because of the sporadic use of modern instruments) would tell you that this is fantastic music.  You wouldn’t even suspect this was written by a metal band.  As a matter of fact this music could even have been used as the soundtrack for some or another fantastic movie, like Lord Of The Rings for instance.

High Hopes

The United Kingdom has been on top of its game the last months when it comes to delivering great metalcore music. Bands such as Bring Me The Horizon and Last Witness are just a tip of the iceberg. High Hopes is the newest upcoming act to put in that bucket. They hail from Hampshire England and released a self-titled 5-track EP.

Drive Like Maria

Since I received both the single and the full album at the same moment, I found it a bit stupid to write two distinct reviews.

This is the second album by this Belgian/Dutch band, that I’d never heard of before.  To say they play hard rock wouldn’t do justice to their music.  This is much more than plain hard rock.  It’s more something in the vein of poppy stoner rock, with also hints of other genres hidden in the songs.

Carry-All

Carry-All is a ska punk band from Italy. They have already been around since 2002, but they are pretty unknown outside of their own country. A few weeks ago, they released their new record, Drink It Yourself. This was a DIY project which went together with the unfortunate event of the departure of both the original drummer and bass player of the band. They didn't let this letdown get to them and recorded Drink It Yourself in their practice room and produced it themselves.

All Time Low

All Time Low has always known many opponents, but even more fans. Throughout the years, the band has made a huge name for themselves and played many great tours and festivals. Here in Belgium, they've already played all major festivals such as Pukkelpop and Rock Werchter, but they also still play the real punk festivals such as the Warped Tour in the USA and Groezrock in Belgium.
