Usually, when Sepulchral Productions appear, and with a band or project from the Québec-region, I become horny and hungry for this material shall be some grim and epic form of (often Nordic-inspired) Black Metal Supremacy. So you can imagine the enormous question-mark on my face when I listened to this EP for the first time.

Anyway, first things first. This young band was formed in 2012 by permanent, session, former or live members of e.g. Akitsa, Thesyre, Decayed Remains, Utlagr, Blackwind and Aufkrema. They wrote and recorded two tracks, which will released on this first official release, and the material will come out in a limited edition of 500 copies only: 100 on blood-red vinyl, 200 on ‘milky clear’ vinyl, and 200 on traditional black vinyl.

Adversity / Servitude opens with, indeed, Adversity, you smartass. And what can I write about this song? Well, this: Hellhammer! This song is a mammoth-interpretation of Hellhammer / early Celtic Frost, yet maybe more muscular and doomier. It’s performed the minimalistic way, but since the track could have been a lost track for Morbid Tales, the ‘fans’ of this sh*t must be attentive! Second song on Adversity / Servitude, and now I’m in for a quiz: Servitude indeed! This one is little groovier than the first song, yet still breathing a mostly decadent and sleazy Doom-Rock-spirit.

Overall, this EP is a nice teaser for, who knows, an upcoming album. It lacks of originality, it lacks of an own identity, it lacks of depth; but who knows, maybe this will evolve into a bright future?
