Blitzkrieg Baby is the electronic Industrial music project of one Kim Solve (an Oslo based Norwegian musician also known from the bands K100, Swarms, Manimalism, and Three Winters), which he apparently founded back in 2001.
However, it wouldn't be before 2012 that the project...which includes Mr. B (further details unknown), Anders B. (of Three Winters, but also of Mind & Flesh and Babyflesh) and Bjeima (of Swarms and Manimalism, but also of Yurei and Alfa Obscura) as its participants...released its debut full-length album Porcus Norvegicus on the Neuropa label, getting the description “...Dark, threatening, industrial and carrying traces of artists like NON, early Laibach and SPK... ranging through a full spectrum of menace. From subtle and disconcerting to sledge hammer heavy, to homicidally disturbed...the music comes from a place of turmoil and suffering – with a wry, twisted smile never far away...”! Sounds promising, eh? Well, Blitzkrieg baby actually delivers just that!
And the same can be said of the offering on the project's new “EP” (between brackets, because in spite of bringing a new version of Porcus Norvegicus' track “Children In Uniform”, the EP still sports 8 other tracks for a total length of 37 minutes (not counting the 3:22 of that remix)...which is longer than many Punk, Hardcore, or Grindcore “full-lengths” I regularly come across. Still, considering that 4 of the tracks were previously released on compilation albums, there's actually only 4 completely new tracks...and therefore the “EP” naming suddenly becomes quite acceptable.
As mentioned above, the music is electronic, and takes influence from Industrial, ElectroPop and Neo-Classical for a relatively minimalistic yet still sublimely layered simplicity, which is effective in the extreme. Obviously, the “marching” effect is induced by the rather suggestive drum patterns. Vocally, there's no real singing, although the lyrics are frequently brought with some melodic side to 'em. Lyrically, topics such as child soldiers, paranoia, gang raping, broken childhoods, terror and death come to the surface...apparently delivered with a sardonic smile. All I can say is, this is either for the fan of Electronic Industrial music, or for the more open-minded music lover. Either way, you can listen to some tracks off the debut album on the band's SoundCloud page, for which you'll find a link at (www.) facebook.com/blitzkriegbaby.com. Nice stuff, this...but something I'd prefer to listen to on an occasional basis, rather than on a continuous basis...in spite of the sardonic smile with which it's intended!
