Carnifex is an American deathcore band from San Diego, California. Formed in 2005, they are currently signed to Nuclear Blast after having been signed to Victory Records and have released four full-length albums and one EP. The name of the band is derived from the Old English Latin word äúexecutioner; literally meaning, "executioner". The current members are: Scott Lewis – lead vocals, Shawn Cameron – drums, Cory Arford – guitars, Fred Calderon – bass guitar and Jordan Lockrey – guitars.

The fifth album since 2007 the album “Die Without Hope”. Start with a mystic, creepy sound  from a horror movie “Salvation Is Dead”…heavy guitar riffs and well screaming voice. Carnifex is not a copycat like others. They try to approach death metal on ways where other groups don’t come. My favorite song on this album is the title song “Die Without Hope” with the new guitarist Jordan he really injects new life into this and other songs. Ten new songs in balance with a higher ambition. Because of Die Without Hope's attempts to please a large mass of fans at once as it spans multiple styles, it comes across as highly inconsistent and really awkward at moments. If you like deathcore just buy this record you can’t lose anything but learn more about this style of metal!
