This Metal/ Hardcore act hails from the town of Stirling (once the capitol of Scotland) in the Central of Scotland (25 miles from the center of Glasgow in NE direction, and 36,6 miles in WNW direction from Edinburgh center), and was formed in 2006.
With the stable line-up of Willie L. (vocals), Dave Mc (guitar), Graham Swan (bass) and Ted (drums), the band recorded two demos (August 2006's From Screams To Whispers and April 2007's Scars Of Victory), and two EPs (2009's Past Remains and 2010's Dawn Of A New Day), and even went on to record this very full-length, which is now finally being given an official release! Following the recording sessions during Summer of 2011, the band went on to tour the country up and down to promote the album (with touring partners Flood Of Red, The Elijah, Bleed From Within, Corrupt Absolute (US), Here Lies A Warning, Sylosis, Odessa, Skindred, Sevendust, and others), releasing a couple of music videos along the line, performing at somewhat upgrade festivals such as Hevy Metal Fest and M-Fest in more recent times...and changing their line-up to the current one, which apparently only has Willie remaining (the other guys being guitarists Aaron and Mikey, drummer Riki, and bassist/ backing singer Spiersky – the latter having helped the band on their album with album photography and artwork).
To make things easier for the casual visitor of their website(s) and yours truly, the guys have a list of influential bands which contributed to their own sound, these comprising (in alphabetical order) A Day To Remember, Alter Bridge, Architects, Asking Alexandra, Enter Shikari, Fear Factory, Funeral For A Friend, In Flames, Korn, Strapping Young Lad/ Devin Townsend, Metallica, Offspring, Parkway Drive, Slipknot, The Devil Wears Prada, and many more. However...the word “influence” has to be taken in a broad sense here, as Final Silence can hardly be seen as a copycat band. As a general typification, one might put the band in the Thrash/ Groove Metal genre, with lingering Hardcore elements (great breakdowns), but the band sure has a quite diverse sound all of its own! To have a taste of that, surf to the band's page on either MySpace (I could not get onto that, due to my network pc's browser currently not being supported – find link on the band's page at the label's site) or facebook ((www.) facebook.com/pages/Final-Silence) where you'll find two older songs and the album's “Self Deliverance” and “What Have We Done?” (the first a good example of the harsher but still versatile side of the band, the latter a perfect display of how the band incorporate both clean vocals and acoustic guitar in their music). But of course that's but a limited view. Album opener “Jaw Ripper” (a more Hardcore-geared track) has guest singers helping out for gang vocals, and the album closing track “I'll Die Fighting” finds bagpipes being played in its last minute. Also, the band included a bonus track, being a remix by AndyMac of the album song “Riding A Redhead”...something for the Industrial/ Gothic fans among us! Great FX on the vocals, by the way!
FS deservedly made 2nd place in the most recent Scottish Unsigned Suface Festival (a band contest which had over 200 bands from all around Scotland competing for a national showcase in London). They were featured on a US compilation album with worldwide distribution, and this has led to air time both on US and Russian radios. The band is anxious for the possibility to touring even more than in the past, and also they are looking forward to recording a second album! I, for one, am curious to find out how the sound evolved, what with new members coming in!
