Fyra Elegier was originally released on mini-CD via Nordvis Produktion, and on vinyl by Blut & Eisen Productions some months later on. The material was recorded by Perditor (vocals, bass and guitars) and drummer Hallbäck and lasts for about twenty four minutes. We did receive it only very recently, but despite big piles of other stuff waiting to be reviewed, I didn’t want to ignore this one.

Fyra Elegier opens with Dödens Dåd, which starts with an ancient-sounding, traditional and melancholic Folk-piece, based on acoustic strings. After this introductional excerpt, the song transfers into an epic yet still somewhat melancholic form of Viking-oriented Black Metal. The tempo is rather slow, the atmosphere bleak and oppressive, the production lo-fi, and the structures monotone yet melodic. And this goes as well for the other compositions on the mini-album: down-tuned, melodic, atmospheric Black Melancholy with burzumesque rhythms, bathorian melodies and more superlatives in many aspects. It makes me waiting impatiently for the upcoming debut full length, probable (read: hopefully) to be available somewhere in 2014!

Note about the lyrical side of the recording: Grift draw inspiration from Swedish poets like Johannes Edfelt, Dan Andersson and Pär Lagerkvist - FYI.

Consider it a mixture of Mock / early Kampfar, Drudkh, Forgotten Woods, Agalloch and Fen.
