I reviewed another Halcyon Way album before, the IndoctriNation album, and what I wrote then, is still what I think about them today. Were it not for the many grunts and growls, I would actually like their music.
What they bring us is a mix between power metal and prog-metal, but without having to show their technical prowess or making too complex songs. Fast paced, with a good rhythm section, and good guitars, and even a rather gifted vocalist. Influences of trash metal and death metal are somewhere mixed in it seems, and that might of course explain the grunts and growls. But I don’t want to be too negative about this band. If you leave out the things I don’t like, or at least not in this abundance, the album is good, consistent, without a weak song really. So I’ll call in mitigated circumstances, and surely hope next album will be just as good, but without the flaws that this album has – although this is my personal opinion of course.
