You thought this might be a new album, a follow-up to 2012's Half Blood? Well, it ain't, but it's even better, because what this is, is a compilation of all tracks which Horseback (in effect the solo outing of Chapel Hill, North Carolina resident Jenks Miller – even if on stage he's got a back-up band currently including John Crouch, Nick Petersen, and Rich James, and sometimes others) has released in the last decade on split 7 or 12 inch vinyl or cassettes, 7-inches on its own (through several labels, including Hydra Head, Three Lobed, Utech, Aurora Borealis, Turgid Animal) and a live cd-R...many of which previously exclusive...and to which additional previously unavailable material is added.

Those in the know will know that Horseback stands for vocally Blackened Drone Metal, and so far produced a total of 4 studio albums : 2007's Impale Golden Horn (originally released only in cassette form through Burly Time; later re-issued through Relapse - see further), 2009's The Invisible Mountain (originally released through Utech Records, also re-issued by Relapse), 2010's Forbidden Planet (originally released on cassette only through Brave Mysteries, re-issued through Relapse in May 2001 on the 2CD compilation The Gorgon Tongue: Impale Golden Horn / Forbidden Planet), and May 2012's Half Blood (the first proper Relapse release, issued on both CD and LP). I guess/ hope the booklet of the actual 3-CD release gets the buyer some further details as to the original releases each track came from, because the above is really all I can tell you about the material! Before I forget, Miller is also a founding member (songwriter/ guitarist) of the band Mount Moriah (who have releases on Merge Records and the Holidays For Quince imprint), has released stuff under his own name, and has played on/ produced/ recorded and/or mixed a number of albums by other bands.

For your listening sessions, go to (http://) horseback.bandcamp.com, or check out the “Music” section at (www.) facebook.com/Horseback (where you'll not find any material off this compilation, though!) Wow...I actually managed to make this a very concise shortie! Which doesn't mean the release doesn't get maximum rating and a nomination for inclusion in my 2013 year-lists, you know!
