Lions of Tsavo from Texas is a very clever blend of progressive, thrash, math, sludge, black and post metal vibes that grows on you with each and every playing.

Bless the rhythm section of one amazing versatile drummer Josh Dawkins and bass ass Daine Vineyard, they lay down some complicated rhythms and odd time signatures. The material is varied, with nice changes in dynamics, some catchy melodies, and even some outbursts. The playing is good, with some intricate parts in places, and no obvious flaws. The production on Traverser by Billy Anderson is dense and overwhelming, and I mean that in a good way, but still leaves room to breathe. It's very hard not to be drawn onto bands like Mastodon, Tombs, Unearthly Trance, Black Anvil, EyeHateGod, Old Man Gloom, Hull,…  and more when listening to this.
