This wonderful album is my favorite of the past couple of weeks, if the amount of time I've spent listening to it is any indication. Everything that made Orchid’s Capricorn so magical, has returned in spades on Mouths of Madness. Orchid, a US hard rock band with more range than almost anyone out there, have released their second offering, following on the heels of their “Wizard of war” single. This time around, it's again a nine-song offering, with a similar but more rough around the edge-sound, Pure positive energy coupled with creative melodies and drastic shifts in mood and style make for an incredibly dynamic, interesting listen. Mouths of Madness is a journey back through time where the band members get to indulge in the music that influenced them. So we get a healthy dose of Black Sabbath, Grand Funk, Dust, Bang, Alice Cooper, Buffalo, The Doors, Santana, Led Zeppelin, Rush,… all thrown into the mix. Even though not all songs are on the same beyond-ingenious level, there is not a single weak tone to be heard. The emotions and atmospheres that this foursome create are unparalleled on any release thus far this year. At times majestic and at others chilling, an entire spectrum of emotions are explored in the full fifty-six minutes of music here. This can't come more recommended.
