Driven by a vision to support the Underground, I am open-minded in a sense that I do not limit myself to review new material only. Most labels I am working with do know that. And more than often I get in touch with an older release that is simply worth being experienced. In this review’s case, I want to refer to the fabulous – yet way too underestimated – label Drone Records, and the Ctephin release DUAD.

In 1997, after Maëror Tri split up, Stefan and Martin (aka Baraka[H] and Glit[s]ch) decided to continue their collaboration under the moniker of Troum. It was a sad thing to notice that Maëror Tri were no more, but I am so pleased – and I am sure this goes for a worldwide audience as well – that these two guys went on under their new moniker.
This review deals, once more, with an older recording / re-release by Drone Records. This time I will not go to deep into the label, nor the band. When it comes to the label, I would like to refer to several other reviews I did for Concreteweb in the (recent) past for this label, and sister-labels Substantia Innominata and Transgredient Records. Drone Records (and the sub-label Substantia Innominata + related Troum-outlet Transgredient Records) have a lot more to offer than individual releases from notorious artists. In 2011 they started up with the Drone-Mind // Mind-Drone sessions, a series of vinyl split-collaborations with four befriended and related musicians.
I knew an American project called Wyrm (which actually means ‘serpent’), but it was a Texas-based Drone entity. But that has nothing to do with this review. There is (was) also a project with the very same name from Tennessee, which involves Le Scrambled Debutante frontman Allan Zane as sole permanent member (there are several guest and session musicians that did co-operate) and which was active during the first decade of this century.
Dual is (was?) an outfit by Doncaster-born sound artist Colin Bradley, who you might know from his assistance with Splintered or his activities in Bark Psychosis too. He started this solo-outfit somewhere in the mid-Nineties, with some recordings done during the second half of the Nineties and the first half of the 2000’s. Then things turned into silence, but the project never officially split up, to my knowledge, despite no more recording activities going on. But that’s another issue…
I was wondering whether I would write an introduction on both projects involved in Xibipiio – In And Out Of Experience, but you know, it would be a loss of time. Everybody knows those entities, I guess. But for those coming from another planet (or those accidently visiting this webzine, which was initially focusing on Metal, and therefore you, dear reader, might not (yet) be that trusted with both acts…)…

Porcupine Tree frontman Steven Wilson acts under some other synonyms too. One of them is Bass Communion, which is a totally different outlet compared to his Rock-oriented bands or projects like, for example, higher mentioned Porcupine Tree, Storm Corrosion, Blackfield or Incredible Expanding Mindfuck.
