This is the debut album by Italian band Highway Dream, who were founded in 2008 in Cremona, a city that was home to some famous violin builders, one amongst them being Stradivarius (not the band, obviously…). In 2009 they already released an EP, containing four songs.

What first strikes me on this album is that Isabella ‘Isa’ Gorni has a fantastic voice, sounding almost like a male singer, but that is only an impression of course.  She does have a female voice, be it quite strong for a lady.  As a matter of fact I’d dare to say that I hear some similarities between her voice, and the music Cheetah brought us (you’ve got to be my age though, to remember this band I guess).

Another strong if  not excellent thing about this band is the guitar work, which gives us some excellent riffing, as well as good solo’s.  The bass guitar is  also excellent,  sounding funky at times. With a better production this CD would probably have received a higher rating, but if they continue in this way, and get a higher budget for their next album, who knows…?

70/100
