Kurnugia are a new band with some extremely experienced members in its ranks, currently or formerly active in the likes of Decrepit, Incantation or The Spawn Of Satan, amongst many others. The quartet wrote and recorded two tracks, compiled as Tribulations Of The Abyss, and originally released independently in May 2013 (actually on CD). Of course the Blood Harvest crew had the intelligence to re-release this stuff on vinyl.

Both pieces on this 7”EP, Plague Winds and Diseased Angels, clock five minutes each, so one cannot call it a hasty thing. As a matter of fact, the result sounds as if these guys are active within this constellation for many years. They perform a gargantuan form of skull-crushing Death Metal with a fabulous Old School vibe. Sound-wise there are more than one element that might refer to the Swedish scene from two decades ago, and performance-wise, Kurnugia take the best aspects from both the European (Sweden and the U.K. especially) and American (cf. the Florida-based) scene anno late eighties / early nineties.

I guess this 7”EP (being released on vinyl only) is some preview to an upcoming album, so I hope to be able to get more profoundly into details in a very near future.
