Cain

Cain were based in Minnesota and those who already are familiar with Cain’s first legendary hard rock album will be pleased with 1977’s Stinger as well. Though the slick blend of driving hard-rock, smooth balladry and progressive textures can get on your nerves too.

Stepson

This CD is from the mastertape recorded in 1972/1974 which seemed to be lost. This quartet are clearly influenced by hard rock’s illustrious past, cuz there are faint echoes of Led Zeppelin, Cactus, Grand Funk, Leafhound and Bloodrock. Although Stepson are, at least on the surface, an easily familiar commonplace hard rock band, there is something absolutely intriguing and hypnotizing about their stab at bluesy hard rock music.

Skogen Brinner

Despite being predictable I like this release by Skogen Brinner. The band, a four piece from Sweden plays a brand of 70s groove stoner fuzz obviously inspired by Black Sabbath, Witchcraft, and Graveyard. They pull some great leads out of the tumultuous hat of their sound, and execute very good build-ups. Once the band are in the full swing of "Australien” and “Fasornas berg” they instantly bring to mind November and that’s always a good choice.

Heat

Hailing from Berlin, Germany, Heat brings their brand of stoner /classic rock n roll to the table with a taste of Zeppelin, Cactus, Sabbath, Hendrix, the Beatles, Cream, Pink Floyd and more. Ingo Börner (guitars) Marco Rischer (guitars) Richard Behrens (bass) and Marcus Töpfer (drums) bring their varied backgrounds in music together in the form of Heat.

Sainte Anthony’s Fyre

Sainte Anthony’s Fyre is a slab of molten Blue Cheer, Grand Funk and Jimi Hendrix inspired psychedelic bluesy, blistering rock. Each track roars or thunders off this disc, streaming off Gregg Ohm’s lead guitar, Tomm Nardi’s rolling, looping bass, and Bob Sharpless explosive drumming. This has to be one of the most aggressive and hardest albums the seventies have ever laid out on record.

Cosmic Travelers

Cosmic Travelers was a short-lived live project that resulted in a sole, self-titled album in 1972. With the record company Volcano closing soon after its release, the album was quickly deleted. The GearFab release of Live! At The Spring Crater Celebration-Diamond Head, Hawaii (full title) includes six tracks and runs the standard length of an LP of the era (about 40 minutes).

Corsair

As soon as the package labelled Corsair arrived in my mail, I knew I was in for a treat and I was right! I've been a big fan of this band and have been following them since their first Ep.  So far this band has been delivering 2 excellent EPs, and this one is no different. The third offering is one of those rare but welcome CDs that grabs you from the very first track and holds you enraptured through the entire recording.
