Wardruna

Norway has always been one of my elected countries when it comes to so-called Nordic-styled Black Metal, of course, yet also when talking about whipping, possessing Traditional Folk Music. I’m not only referring to, for example, some of the project done by Black Metal artists (like Darkthrone, Satyricon, Windir with a couple of folkish side-projects), even though, when introducing this band, I have to refer to the Norwegian Black Metal scene as well.

Colussus

Essentially what you get with Colossus is another entry into the world of groove math sludge metal that is already populated by the likes of Baroness, Truckfighters, Black Tusk and Kylesa. While fanatics of that particular little niche might be the ones to get the biggest kick out of Colossus, the overall unoriginality of the album is very unfilling.

Purson

This is the first full cd release from Purson who hails from UK, and is one of the best and most original contemporary occult female fronted folk psych/prog bands of recent years.

Hacride

Hailing from France, Hacride is another entry into the alternative metal field. Hacride take sheer musical force and commanding vocals to new heights. Intricate guitar work collides with masterful tempo changes, the rhythmic patterns are furious yet inventive in their splendour. Luiss Roux’ vocals are an additional strongpoint as they fit in with their sound perfectly, but hopefully he will restrain his singing a little bit, less is more.

Night Ranger

This double CD contains 18 tracks in total two of the tracks rather being a solo then a song, and as a bonus an interview with Brad Gillis and Kelly Keagy.  The songs were recorded in 1997 during a show at the Akasaka Blitz in Tokyo – Japan.

Uncle Acid And The Deadbeats

Easily one of the most exhilarating bands to come down the pipe in a very long time, this UK quartet Uncle Acid And The Deadbeats once again showcase why they so deserve their abundance of critical acclaim with Mind Control. Seeing Uncle Acid at Roadburn last week was an ultimate joy and one of the highlights for sure.

Streetlight Manifesto

Streetlight Manifesto from New Jersey will release their fifth studio album in five years, proving that it's a band that really works hard to make a name for themselves. After having done the entire 2012 Vans Warped Tour and an American headlining tour, they are ready to present The Hands That Thieve to the audience.

Kamelot

Kamelot are one of those symphonic power metal bands that loads of people seem to enjoy as they have rather progressive song writing and skip the overloaded elements. After the criticized predecessor “Poetry For The Poisoned” that had many dull moments and a lack of passion and variation, the band’s Norwegian singer Roy Khan left the band and was soon replaced by another Scandinavian singer, the young Tommy Karevik from Sweden. Many people were expecting a return to strength. But this didn’t happened.
