The über-productive outfit with the ingeniously developed name Crazygoji, hailing from Illinois, US, did originally release Times New Romantic in early 2024; more specific, it did see the stroboscopic light on February 2nd in both self-release as well via New Zealand-based label Lilypad Records. However, No Sides Records do not mind to have worthy material (re)released, so they decided to have this twenty-track adventure pressed on tape, as part of a bunch that was released on May 3rd (in a ‘bundle’ with material from Mođir, Mechanical Bull, Nonfinite, Nightmare Spirit, Charles Josef Smith, Patansy or The Lonesome Organist). Anyway, even though Crazygoji has more releases than followers (dixit the artist himself), his impressive curriculum vitae will keep it that way, for there are about fifteen new releases under this moniker since the initial release of Times New Romantic.
Bon, this said… This recording consists of twenty lullabies, each of them lasting in between half a minute up to about three minutes. …short symphonies they are indeed… Everything was written, recorded and produced in Ableton during the last weeks of 2023. The re-release comes on tape, still with the originally-chosen facetious cover artwork by Xoma18.
What can you expect: energy, excitement, empowerment, arousal… It’s a festival of joyful escapades, of energetic ambience, of trippy dynamics. Extremist synth-based keys, hyper-kinetic percussions, burst-out 8-bit eruptions, game-like digitalization; this material is nothing less than brain-bubbling trans-spiritual Techno / Dance / Trance / Body Music stuff, with a Chiptune / Game attitude, somehow craving for romance, for affection, and for passion. It exhales a groove that translates narrow-mindedness into energy and dynamism.
Funky, twisting, twirling, punchy, ardent… This might have been a soundtrack to transform bitterness and despair into joy and positivism (ask the creator); at least it’s beating the best and the most energetic out of one’s stubborn, pessimistic raison d’être, focusing on one’s most frenzy lucid-emphasis being – or in short: post-modernistic sonic-electronic abuse, trans-potent beats and Chiptune-like 8-bit alike tunes, and bla bla bla… A must for those who deny man’s random normality…
