One of the most innovative and mind-blowing Doom-acts from Sweden is, without any doubt, this band: Kongh. Their new piece, Sole Creation, was recorded at the Teknikkompaniet studio with Peter Lundin; mix and mastering have courtesy of Cult Of Luna’s Magnus Lindberg (check out the review on this band’s newest release as well, updated on Concreteweb on 10/02/2013).

Sole Creation is a next step within this band’s permanent evolution. Yes, it’s still a mixture of droning Sludge and obscure Doom Metal, yet with such an impressive addition on unique details.

First of all the average length of the tracks. The album lasts for forty five minutes and contains of four tracks only. yet in spite of this lengthy duration, not one single hymn bores.

Secondly, the variety. It’s a necessary element for tracks with this long duration, of course. Yet at the same time, there the need of coherence; otherwise a long track isn’t but an infantile collage of individual excerpts. Not in this album’s case for sure, because all songs are diverse yet cohesive pieces.

The atmosphere. The darkened spirit behind Kongh’s music has not been traded for an easier approach. …at all. Sole Creation is experimental and an experience, but without schizophrenic exaggeration. Besides, and this goes for the variety and the atmosphere, the constantly present changes in tempo and melody aren’t but lucky shots. The guys behind this band did work hard and intensively on this album, and the result excludes any doubt about it.

Then, when it comes to the performance, going for both instrumentation and vocals. Well, this might be an experience an sich. It’s cleanly performed, yet with sharp, unpolished edges around it, and impregnated with the most sinister details from stoner, Post-Hardcore, Black Metal, Prog-Rock and Doom-Death.

Highly recommended to fans of: Mastodon, The Ocean, Yob, Cult Of Luna, Ufomammut, Neurosis, Tombs (+ Alice In Chains) and the likes…
