Tombstoned are a pretty young act (formed in 2010) from Finland that now debut with a self-called full length studio recording (forty seven minutes for six tracks). Last year the trio self-released a two-track EP, which drew the attention of Svart Records, with this full album as first result of their co-operation.

What you can expect is a Stoner-injected form of (Traditional) Doom with a Seventies / Eighties vibe, a bluesy approach and a smoky attitude. Unfortunately this album does not convince at all. Tombstoned rather sounds like a collection of riffs and rhythms taken from the likes of Black Sabbath, Saint Vitus, Hawkwind, Woven Hand and Witchcraft. It does not sound bad at all, but there are a couple of disappointing elements: the shameless lack of self-created inspiration, the lack of outstanding parts (the comparisons I made are way more convincing, of course), and the dull vocals.

A surplus is the sound: rough, thick, misty and unpolished (à la Kongh and the likes), but I’m afraid it isn’t sufficient to label this stuff as ‘highly recommended’. Nevertheless, the rich fans of the genre etc…
