Skoll

There are quite some bands with the moniker Skoll, but this review deals with the young Swedish one. Skoll were formed in 2010 in Sweden’s capital Stockholm. They recorded two demonstrational / rehearsal recordings, twice extremely limited, in the past, and now they come up with Helvetestromb, once again independently released and once again extremely limited (only fifty tapes are made with one single goal: violently torturing our eardrums).

Metal Moth

Formed in July 2012, Metal Moth started out as Mark, Chris and David jamming in Chris' living room without a band name to go by. The name for the band came when Chris sat on a Moth during one of the practices and killed it. It started as a joke to name the band after the moth, but it kind of sticked with them.

Истина (Istina)

Istina is the name of some goddess, an evil female entity that wants to create / give birth to forceful creatures in order to destroy the world. This queen did inspire many bands before, amongst which this duo (M. and N.), hailing from the big Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk (Russia, at the river Yenisey). ‘istina’ is also the Russian word for ‘truth’, so actually I am not sure if there’s a connection, to be honest.

No Hand Path

In a couple of days I will write a review for a new Varathron-album, Untrodden Corridors Of Hades, but this review deals with five-piece No Hand Path, which consists of two Varathron-members, i.e. the brothers Haris and Sotiris Kokkinos, performing drums and bass respectively.

Dwell

Dwell are yet another sludge band to come to the surface with this self releas 4-track album. And to be honest this is not a release that sticks out in a positive manner….  4 songs “to scry on lamentations “ and “ Far dark  helm   pts I, II and III “   each flirting with the 10 minute marker but unfortunately also flirting with boredom, sloppy execution  and  overall lack of power  in the production… all this despite being  assisted by Noah Landis of   NEUROSIS /CHRST ON PARADE fame.

Wallner / Vain

Following the self-release of their debut album Will Wallner & Vivien Vain in early Summer 2012, guitarist Will Wallner and singer Vivien Vain found Polish label Metal Mind Productions willing to release that album officially in October of the same year...and we at ConcreteWeb were sent a copy of the original, of which a review (by yours truly) was eventually posted on 13/03/2013 in a Two Side Moon Promotions special.

Attic

Southern Oregon-based Attic recorded the self-released album Seasons at 23 Below Studios (Wilderville, Oregon) with producer Scotty Gissel. With Seasons, the quintet (guitar players Christopher Pilcher and Nathaniel Tracey, drummer Otis Blankenship IV, bass player Joey Souza, and vocalist Jeremy DeGonia) bring thirty five minutes of groovy and technically executed Black / Death Metal.

Kâhld

Kâhld are a new project by LukHass, founded earlier this year in Baden-Württemberg. You might know this guy from ‘old’ Black Metal-act Cryptic Forest (they released their debut full length last year; Ystyr), but as Rakshasa, he’s also active in Black Metal-duo Endstadium or Innenkrieg, a Black-outfit he shares with bassist Jerndod, who’s part of Kâhld’s line-up too. Both projects however have nothing to do with each other.

Graftage

Graftage are an Italian duo (drummer Giovanni ‘Jo’ Bragie and vocalist / bassist / keyboardist / guitarist Stefano ‘Batti Blackheart’ Battistuz) from the city of Varese, who started in 2011. This album, Secret Garden, is their first studio effort, and it includes lyrics in both their mother tongue and English (though all titles are in English, and so is the band’s moniker, but don’t let this mislead you). The result is a fifty four minutes long journey through dark and heavy atmospheres.
