The Horrible Crowes

Oh my, talk about milking out successful events! In late 2010, Brian Fallon (lead singer/ guitarist of The Gaslight Anthem) and his guitar tech Ian Perkins got together to write songs together for a side-project of theirs, which he announced as concentrating “...on the dark side of soul music...”. In essence, they were writing some singer-songwriter songs with somewhat darker lyrics, and the two headed to a studio to record a total of 12 original songs.

Speedtrap

Having come across this Finnish band's name as a reference in Circle's most recent album Incarnation, I felt no reluctance whatsoever about having to review this quartet's most recent outing.

Slough Feg

Slough Feg is a heavy metal band formed in Pennsylvania in the early 90s. Current members: Mike Scalzi (Guitars/Vocals), Angelo Tringali (Guitars), Adrian Maestas (Bass) and Harry Cantwell (Drums). According the definition of the group: ‘has a style that's best described as an eclectic mix of Celtic Folk and Traditional Metal peppered with buckets of energy and lyrical depth’.

Sister

Sister a Swedish hard rock/ punk/metal band. Formed in 2006 with JAMIE (vocals)TIM (guitar & backing vocals) RIKKI (bass & backing vocals) CARI (drums & backing vocals).

Disguised Vultures” the album id recorded with Martine Sweet and Linus Birbrant and features the previously released single “Sick”. A cd with heavy, raw sound and attitude.

Serpent Omega

Essentially what you get with Serpent Omega is another entry into the world of sludge/doom/stoner metal that is already populated by the likes of Kylesa, Hull, Entombed, Lair of the Minotaur, Negative Reaction and even Pantera. While fanatics of that particular little niche might be the ones to get the biggest kick out of Serpent Omega, the overall unoriginality of the album is very unfelling.

Pyhä Kuolema

As it turns out, the people at Finland's Svart Records have a musical taste which extends beyond the mere “Rock”, “Metal”, and “Punk” genres, as proven with this one-man NeoFolk act Pyhä Kuolema (band name translating to “sacred death”).

Paavoharju

Oh my...Svart Records IS swiftly becoming one of my favorite labels indeed! I mean, somehow these dudes manage to get the pick of more adventurous bands in Finland, you know, and that such is more than to my liking, is a self-evident fact of life!

Nashville Pussy

Nashville Pussy is a band that of course I’d heard of before, but never paid any attention.  I thought with a name like that they would either play some indigestible mix of punk and heavy metal, or pure glam rock.

Mount Salem

Mount Salem is Emily Kopplin (vocals & organ), Cody Davidson (drums), Mark Hewett (bass) and Kyle Morrison (guitars) they are from US, Chicago. Playing psychedelic rock and doom metal.
