Call Of the Void

Not sure if they're a sludge, crust or grindcore band, Call of the Void decides to be all three at once with their 2013 release Dragged Down A Dead End Path. Musically the disc is complex full. The guitars chop, thrash and wail. The bass and drums lay down an amazing blast beat with the vocals providing a backwash of anger. Call Of the Void sounds as if they carry the weight of the world on their shoulders and must create angry bulldozing music for catharsis.

Blacksoul Seraphim

Only recently received, even though originating from the end of last year (so are many releases, so WTF…).

Objective info: Alms And Avarice was recorded at Black Coffee Sound by Clay Neely (Elder, Black Pyramid, Killslug) during last year’s summer.

Half-and-half, subjective versus objective info: Doom stuff with a chilly atmosphere and powerful sound, balancing in between tradition and experimentalism.

Beissert

Beissert is one of the many German metal bands that seem to exist to put out angry sounding records that show a lot of brainless stomping furious energy. What holds me back on this album is that there is a sense of exhaustion that builds as the album wears on. The hoarse, screamo-throated metalcore vocals rumble tales of war and destruction, politics and religious sects are delivered sans emotion or melody. It's all pretty standard stuff that's been done before, and done better.

Neaera

The last thing we’ve heard of Neara was their fifth album ‘Forging’ The Eclipse’ in 2010. The years after where very busy. They shared the stage with Parkway Drive, System Of A Down,… They were honored to be chosen by German Metal Hammer magazine to contribute a cover version of Metallica’s “Through The Never” to the bonus cd of the magazines ‘Black Albem 20 years anniversary’.

Lost Society

17,18,19, 19. No, that’s not today’s lottery numbers, but the age of the band members of Finland’s most promising newcomer combo. Founded early 2010 by thrash/ speed metal enthusiast Samy Elbanna.

The band decided even after a few years to take part in the word- renowned GBOB (Global Battle Of The Bands). After they had won the preliminary decision round in their hometown.

Claimed For Damage

Black Ghost Is the debut album from Claimed For Damage. A metal band with very little info out there about themselves. The only info you can find about them is that they like Pantera, Lamb Of God, Testament and various others. Well i can't hear any Pantera in their music, but riff wise there is a lot of Testament and Lamb Of God going on.

Wardrum

Thessaloniki (Central Macedonia, Greece) based Heavy/ Power Metal band Wardrum is far from a newcomer act. For even if the band itself only came into existence in the early Summer of 2010, the band already is at its sophomore album, and all of its members have an extended history in Thessaloniki based Metal!

Mythic Force

Founded by guitarist Broderick Gray in 1991, Mythic Force is a Neo-Classically inspired Melodic Power Metal/ Heavy Metal act from Georgetown, Massachusetts,  which did not get around to releasing alums until they did so on their own at the beginning of this millennium! One cannot by wonder how comes, as the duo teamwork of Gray and longstanding fellow second guitarist Karl Heimar is indeed a more than nice one with interchanging lead plays!

Saxon

Saxon is one of those bands who’ve been around for so long, are liked by most metalheads, yet never managed to achieve the same breakthrough bands like Iron Maiden of Judas Priest were able to.  They also made part of the NWOBHM scene, and despite a dip in the late eighties that lasted into the early nineties, have since regained their strength and are churning out album after album.

Sardonis / Eternal Elysium

This split-album isn’t just some cheap re-release. It was originally released on 10” vinyl edition in 500 copies, and now it gets re-released with a bonus track done by each band involved with the split. Again in 500 copies only, by the way…

Actually, this material was (re-) released to celebrate SardoniS’ Japanese tour and so on, but who cares, besides a handful of Japanese Sludgers?...
